Influenza Diagnostics Market: Emerging Technologies and Industry Opportunities

The Influenza Diagnostics Market is increasingly shifting toward decentralized testing as patients and healthcare providers seek faster access to diagnostic results. Point-of-care and at-home testing can reduce dependence on centralized laboratories and provide clinicians with information that supports faster treatment and infection-control decisions.

The market was valued at USD 1.94 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 3.53 billion by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 6.15% from 2026 to 2035, according to Market Research Future.

The growing acceptance of rapid testing is an important factor behind decentralized diagnostics. Rapid influenza diagnostic tests remain the highest-volume test category, accounting for 44.0% of the market in 2025. Their short turnaround time and relatively low cost make them suitable for emergency departments, urgent-care facilities, pharmacies, and other settings where immediate testing is valuable.

Point-of-care settings are expected to be one of the most dynamic areas of market development. MRFR projects this segment to grow at a 9.85% CAGR through 2035. Increasing availability of over-the-counter respiratory tests, telehealth services, and retail healthcare channels is supporting this transition. Patients can increasingly access testing outside traditional hospital and laboratory environments.

At-home testing also benefits from behavioral changes developed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Consumers have become more familiar with self-testing and rapid diagnostic products, creating greater acceptance of home-based influenza testing. As manufacturing technologies improve and product costs decline, these tests may become increasingly accessible across developed and emerging markets.

However, decentralized testing also presents challenges. Rapid antigen tests can have lower sensitivity than molecular methods, potentially creating demand for improved technologies that combine convenience with higher diagnostic accuracy. CRISPR-based and other molecular platforms could help address this gap by bringing advanced detection capabilities into simpler testing formats.

Multiplex testing is another emerging opportunity. Flu/COVID/RSV combination tests can provide broader diagnostic information from a single testing event. Such platforms may become particularly useful during respiratory-virus seasons when multiple pathogens circulate simultaneously.

Overall, the increasing movement toward point-of-care and home diagnostics is expanding the addressable influenza testing market. Manufacturers that can combine affordability, accuracy, portability, ease of use, and regulatory compliance are positioned to benefit from the continued decentralization of influenza diagnostics.
